Asparagus, Pear, Pillsbury Puffs?

asparagus_pear_puffs

This recipe is something that I really left till the last minute, trying to decide how to pair the sweetness of pear with the crisp somewhat bitterness of asparagus. At the last minute (with 1 hour till the guests arrived) I borrowed an idea I had from a past chick pea pear salad I have since mostly forgotten how to make. The mixture of curry, cinnamon, and pear have always impressed my taste buds and shocked the unknowing eaters. This one I especially am having troubles coming up with a name for so please post your ideas and enter for a chance to win the 3 platters and 2 free cans of Pillsbury crescent rolls. Enjoy.

What you need:

3 Bartlett pears peeled, cored, and cut into half inch cubes

1 Bunch of Asparagus

1 Can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

1/4 tsp curry powder

1/4 tsp ground Cinnamon

2 TBL olive oil

In advance:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the olive oil in a pan big enough to allow you to layer all the asparagus in the bottom flat. Brush with additional olive oil cover with foil, and let bake for 10-20 minutes. You do not want the asparagus to be soft just crisp. Set aside asparagus for later use.
  2. In a small to medium saucepan simmer on low the pears, cinnamon, and curry for 10-20 minutes until just soft stirring occasionally. Set aside.

Putting them together:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Unroll your Pillsbury crescent rolls and separate the triangles.
  3. cut 2-3 inches of the asparagus spears and place in the middle of the crescent roll leaving 1/2-1 inch sticking out.
  4. Dab 1 TBL of the cooled pear mixture over the middle of the asparagus spear.
  5. Gently roll the crescent roll back up over the asparagus while incorporating it into the middle of the crescent roll.
  6. Seal all seams to keep the pear mixture inside.
  7. Bake on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for 15-25 minutes until golden and puffy.
  8. Serve warm.

Enjoy.
